Shoes, Haircuts and Tattoos

Shoes, Haircuts and Tattoos

For those who have met me this past year, I’ve had long hair. I refused to cut it until I felt comfortable enough transitioning from a corporate career to building a portfolio career and a viable and valued business in Dear Thrive. I guess its been a metaphor of depravation.

✂️ I cut it. About 15 inches off.

💃 It was librating. Not just because of the hair but more because it represents personal growth over the last year, and the experience creating and growing a business from scratch.

**So, where does Shoes, Haircuts and Tattoos come in?

👟 Most decisions are like SHOES - try one on, if you don’t like it, put it back and try another. There is low decision making, no risk, limited effort. You can try on multiple.

💇‍♀️ Other decisions are like HAIRCUTS - you can fix the bad ones and even if you had to “wear it”, it won’t take long to grow out. Trying something new is often worth the risk. If it doesn’t work out, you can still move on but would have learned something new. If it does work out, there is the potential for upside.

🐲 A few decisions are like TATTOOS - once you make them they can have lasting impact. The decisions leave a mark. These are the ones that require deeper thinking.

This year, I’ve had many mental haircuts - some that probably look like the bowl cut (sorry, never a good idea) and despite the personal transformation, none of them I would consider tattoos. Don’t be afraid to try out a new haircut, those biggies might be tough for a bit but mostly they are remarkable growth opportunities.

With my lighter haircut, I’m looking forward to some exciting things in 2026 and I hope you are too.

🍀 Keep thriving!
